OMG...An Award!!

Wow...this is SOOOO cool! I got an award from Keeley, who has been ever so kind! I never expected an award...thank you once again!

Before I run away with my thank you's, this award has a few rules:
1. Add the logo of the award to your blog.
2. Add a link to the person who awards you.
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4. Add links to those blogs on your blog.

I have made quite a few friends here even though my blog's been like, a few weeks' old...thank you all SOOO much for coming back and checking up on my blog! I would like to nominate (in no apparent order):
Sorry if you have been nominated before! You guys have been so great, I thought I'd return a small favour! Plus, I've enjoyed reading your blogs A LOT...*wink*

And now, I'd like to give a BIIIG shout out to my Mom for being so great in helping me with this blog...love her to death! To my brother, Kenji...my big sister, Lady...my little rabbit friends, and all other lovely friends (people and dogs alike!) who have been SOOO great to me in my 15 months so far! I am one lucky pup...*grins*

xoxo,
Scottie

P/S: I haven't forgotten about my misadventures at the obedience graduation exam! Mom still needs to get those photos from her camera first...and I thought, since this is my first COOL award, I'd like to give it a post by itself....hee! More news to come very soon, I promise!

Hey buddy! Love your photo posts. Too cute.

To answer your questions~
This is where all that research comes in handy. Your human can take it all in and figure out a diet that's right for you. Some raw feeders eat grains, some veggies, some only meat. I can't tolerate any grains whatsoever, but my mom likes the idea of including a tablespoon of veggies in our dinner. We do well with that, but some dogs may not. In terms of veggies and grains, it's an individual choice.

What is extremely important, however, is making sure that your calcium and phosphorus ratios are correct. Calcium comes from the bones, phosphorus from the meat. Generally speaking, if you eat one meal of meaty bones (chicken wings, necks, etc) and another meal of just meat (splitting half and half your total food), you're more or less balanced. There should be more meat than bone total, because an animal is more muscle than bone. Your goal is to mimic what we'd eat as prey, and that includes about 10% organ as well (kidney, liver...). That's pretty much where the idea of the "prey model" came from.

Too much bone will make your poops powdery and dry. Too much meat will make them too soft. And too much organ can give you diarrhea. There's no real science to it, aside for keeping an eye on your body and how it's reacting.

It's important to know that your goal is balance over time. Not every single meal needs to be "complete and balanced" however, after a week you should have gotten everything that you need. Our humans don't eat every single meal that is complete, but over time they make sure to get their nutrients. Variety is really important too, and that helps to ensure that you're exposed to lots of vitamins from lots of different sources. We try to avoid eating the same type of meat more than 2 times per week.

We are able to get whole ground carcass, which is basically the entire animal minus the fur/feathers and digestive systems. That means that the bones, meat and organs are all ground together and it makes for an easy way to ensure we're taking in bone, meat and organ in the proper ratios - the prey model. If you can get a hold of that, your human's job will be pretty simple. You can eat that for all of your meals because it's already balanced.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
