Dogathon 2010

Oh dear...another long-delayed post! Today is also Mom's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!! *big sloppy wet kisses*), so she says she's taking a bit of time to help me write since it's been AGES and I've got more stuff to share! *grins* So, here goes another event that I got to attend about 2 weeks ago:

Yup, I guess you've already known about it from the blog title! *wink* It's the annual Dogathon organized by a local university here to raise funds for the well-being of animals as well as being a platform for doggie lovers to gather and have fun =)

Mom's camera holding certainly needs some work...she wanted to capture me and the people behind us (there were SOOOO many!) but the people got cut off. LOLLL!

Let's go, Mom! I want to meet some doggie friends!

And meet them we did...the first group of doggies I met were quite diverse *wink* We had fun sniffing and greeting each other...heh!

We got a 'butt-sniffing train' going on too...LOLL!

Mom also helped out with Aunty Yen's booth to sell furrenz.com's tags so I got to chill and meet other doggies who came with their owners to buy the cool tags! See the number of human legs and doggies around? They're literally like a sea of humans and dogs! *grins* Mom said at the end of the day, there was an announcement from the organizers...they had broken a their own, as well as a Malaysian record for having the most number of doggies gathered in one day. Guess how many of us were there? 1100 doggies!! Awesome, isn't it??

And what is a Dogathon without an actual marathon with dogs, right? Hehehehe...there was again a sea of people going to run their hearts out with their furkids! Mom didn't join this coz she said she will pass out if she tried to even run 1km (the marathon was about 3km). LOLLL! There were plenty of other games too like the "Master Hunt", where the doggies were put in a maze, and just by hearing the sound of their human's voice, they have to maneuver out of the maze...awesome eh? Mom wanted to let me try that but I wouldn't hear of it...I hate mazes! >.<"

We did get to try out a game called "Mummy-Go-Round" (the theme of this year is Egypt, so every game has something to do with Egypt!), which is like a Musical Chair with a twist...coz we play it with our humans :) We didn't win sadly, but it was fun! And after that, I got to meet more doggies too, like this cute Min. Schnauzer buddy! *grins*

And here's a cool gathering of the three different sized Poodles! The Standard, Mini, and Toy Poodles all together...how often do you see that, right? *wink*

After walking around for a bit, it's time for Mom to go back and help out at the booth again, so I chilled (with my ugly and wet beard) and scored some treats too!

Meeting new friends at the booth was a blast...you never know who you're going to meet. This one time I met this cute Jack Russell dude and when he saw Mom holding the camera to snap photos of him...

He ran straight towards her to get a close-up! LOLL! Mom loves this cute photo of his nose...*grins*

Chilling out is lots of work too...I need to make sure that people come to the booth with my 'handsome' looks. LOLL! So, Mom gave me some snacks courtesy of the other people having booths there. There were SOOO many goodies when the day ended. We got home and checked...how much did we get, you say?

How about these for size? *wink* The sausage thingy on the top left were bought by Mom, but the rest of the treats, chews, toys and samples were given out free to everybody who attended the Dogathon! Score!!

I wanted to get to the treats pronto, but Mom made me pose first...GRRR! We didn't really have much use for the kibble samples since we're on the raw diet, but the treats and chews, I LOVE! More on that later...*grins*

Kenji wanted in on the treats too, so he had to have a picture first before he was given a treat...heh!

And that's about it for my Dogathon post...I wished I had more photos of the booths and the games, but Mom was busy collecting goodies from the booths that she didn't have enough hands to take photos. LOL! Remind me to get a better photographer next time...*wink*

Oops...

Looks like I've abandoned my blog for more than a month! >.<" Really, really sorry about that. Thanks to everyone who's been asking about Mom and her arm...she seems to be getting better I think. She tries to use her left hand more with holding light things whenever she can, but she's still in a cast. The last appointment with the doctor didn't go too well, I guess...she was told that her broken bones have not shown any signs of reconnecting yet. =(

The doctor gave her another 3 weeks, by which time they will do another x-ray to see the next course of action. That's going to happen next week, so we're hoping there will be signs of the bones reconnecting then *crosses paws* My goodness, I've neglected the blog so long, my post that was about Ruby's Resort is like SOOOO outdated..LOL! I guess I'll post the nicer photos in a slideshow here =)

Speaking of which...Some of my really cool friends have passed on some really cool awards to me! This is way overdue, so thank you SO, SOOOOO much to Santa for this lovely blog award! *grins*

This next award comes from Pluto, the cool German Shepherd! Thank you SOOO much, Pluto...I'm really honored!

Well, that's about it for now...Mom managed to take some pretty funny photos of me the other day, so I'm getting her to edit them for me real soon so I can show you all what a doofus I looked like to make her laugh. *wink* Till then...

Ruby's Resort Again...YAYYY!!!

Hi everyone,

Since Mom's feeling a little better (thanks to everyone for the healing vibes!), she thought she'd help me post about the trip we went to like, AAAGES ago...*sigh* I thought for once, we could be on time, but as it is, circumstances do not allow it, eh? Anyways, here's Day 1 of our trip to Ruby's Resort way back on 24th July...

We were ecstatic about reaching the place! SOOO many new smells since we were there last!

After all our friends reached the resort, it's FEASTING time! *grins* Mom made some cupcakes (like the ones Kenji got for his birthday) for everybody to share...=)

This was Mom in one of the chalets which housed many Maltese friends...look at them all clambering to get some of those cupcakes! *grins*

As it were, there wasn't much going on during Day 1, so Mom didn't take many photos of us, but during the evening, Ruby and her workers were very kind to put up a bonfire for our group! How cool is that? We loved watching the pretty flames, but it did get a little too hot to sit near it...

So, that's about it for Day 1 at Ruby's Resort...boy, was it tiring to be travelling for about 4 hours to get there! But still, it was worth it, being able to experience nature like this!

Kenji calling it a night...heh!

Day 2 was quite disastrous coz Mom woke up late...hmmph! She got up at 9am when the sun is already up and about....I made sure she hurried me to the beach though! *wink*

Hehehe...a similar photo was taken at our last trip, but I still love it! *wink*

Here was one of my Maltese friends at the table, Faustina! She was so patient, waiting at the table for her Mom...=)

We didn't lose much time, so off to the beach...and there I played with Pepper, a Min. Schnauzer pup like me! She was so much fun!
.
.
.
.
(To be continued...*wink*)

We'll be back soon...I'm getting Mom to help me comment at your blogs while she's at this *wink*

Volunteer Work at Furry Friends' Farm

Mom went to Furry Friends' Farm (FFF) to do some volunteer work with her friends yesterday...when she came back, she told me that although she didn't do as much work as some of her friends, she feels EXHAUSTED. Goes to show how energetic she is, no? Tsk tsk tsk...

The idea was to help out at the shelter as rescues are still going on at Pulau Ketam (I'm pretty sure most of us have heard about it) so that the rescuers from FFF can concentrate more on rescuing, and for Mom I think she went because she can NEVER go on a rescue mission with her 'city' mentality...LOL! Guess this is the next best thing for her to chip in *wink* Here are photos!

The endless road outside FFF...the lady at the car is the organizer for this trip! Mom says she is superb for getting everybody organized and donations (in kind) from anybody willing to donate for the cause!

Here they are at FFF...can't read Chinese (neither can Mom! *rolls eyes*), so I guess I'm going to have to ask Gramma what the words below the English ones mean. *grins*

Some of the dogs at the entrance...Mom was told that some of them were the ones rescued from Pulau Ketam. They were isolated for a bit from the others so that they could get some rest and calm down from the trauma they experienced. The lady-in-charge, Ms Sabrina, told Mom that in total, FFF has managed to rescue a total of 21 dogs for now. 2 dogs are still at the vet for monitoring, and the rest are here...kudos to the rescue team!

There were also puppies found here..look at how cute they are! Mom was not sure if they are from Pulau Ketam, but it is so sad to see puppies not being given a home dedicated to love them...

Here are some other photos of adult dogs that were allowed to roam the premises of FFF:

Some close-up on the dogs that were kept in one of the enclosures...

This was one of the frequent volunteers at FFF...see how the doggies all crowd around her for attention? It's so heartwarming to see her interact with the dogs...Mom says she sees her sitting and talking with the dogs too while doing the necessary work.

Then it was feeding time! She brought out a big pail of rice to be mixed with kibbles and cod liver oil emulsion. Then the mixture will be divided amongst the dogs...Mom helped a little in distributing the food, but no photos of this.

Another volunteer waiting for everybody else to get some bowls so that the distribution can start all at one go, and will be easier to tell which doggie has been fed.

And then, the feeding begins:

Here are some more photos of doggies that Mom managed to photograph. She said it's quite sad to learn from Ms. Sabrina that the number of doggies being rehomed in FFF has been very slow. Most people who wants to adopt dogs would tend to choose pedigree dogs (like Kenji and I) over the mixed breeds, and because the doggies that FFF take in are from the streets, they don't look as 'pretty' as us pedigree dogs. =(

At FFF, you can see quite a few doggies with only 3 legs. It's good to see that they are also given a second chance at life even though they are not fully able like other doggies:

The group that Mom was with to do volunteer work...there were more people, but at the time this photo was taken, some haven't arrived yet. Everybody was doing their bit in helping out. Mom did what little she can: help to bathe a few doggies, rake some leaves, distribute food, and helping to feed the fishes at the ponds nearby.

The donations came in strong too! This was only part of the donations that the group brought that day. Things like kibbles, rice, dog shampoo, cages, dewormers, etc were brought in.

Before Mom left for the day, this was taken. This was also only part of the donations that came in...everyone who has donated has been SOOO generous!

All in all, Mom says it was an eye-opening experience. I feel very blessed too to be having a nice home with people to love me and play with me! We hope that with the exposure that the media has brought for FFF, the doggies there will be in better conditions to live in now that funds are coming in to help these poor doggies. Kudos again to all the volunteers and people running FFF! You really are angels for doggies...*grins*
