A couple of days ago, Mom went for a little dinner with Gramma at this apparently 'cool' place (though why it was called cool when it didn't involve me, I don't know!). I guess I can't really do it right, so I'm going to pass it on to her just this once. *wink*
Thanks, Scottie! What a little good boy you are...=) Well, I actually got some invites to go for a mystery party dinner called 'The Pink Lace Diamond Murder Mystery Party'. Just the name of it sounds pretty intriguing already! It's like 'Cluedo' but with actors acting it out in the midst of dinner guests instead of a board game...The guests get clues on the mystery, and try to figure out who-dun-it, the motive and how it was done! The dinner was to raise funds for Salaam Wanita, a project started to help disadvantaged women lead independent lives.
This was part of the place where the dinner was held, called SOHO KL. It actually looks very posh and expensive, but my camera skills need work. LOL!
The restaurant itself...it's called Michaelangelo's and the big centerpiece of the room was this GORGEOUS painting of the creation of Adam by the famous Michaelangelo.
Like I said, it looks very expensive...it kind of reminds me of 'Hell's Kitchen' a little, except that Gordon Ramsay is not around. LOL!
On to the food, shall we? Here was my iced lemon tea...not enough tea. Tasted a bit dilute to me, but oh well...it was free flow. Go figure.
The pretty h'ordeuvres that were served...don't really know what were the toppings, but I tasted tuna, some tomatoes, definitely olive oil, possible olives, and some great herbs and spices. Delightful!
Waited for quite a while before dinner was served...it was a buffet, so naturally I took a little of (almost) everything. LOL! Clockwise from the top: Roast chicken served with a lovely creamy sauce, potatoes with veges, roasted potatoes, some stir-fried vegetables, and some AMAZING fish with I-don't-know-what's-in-it-but-it-tastes-like-tomato-and-oregano sauce!
I have to say, there weren't many varieties of food as was expected, but what was served were delicious. And surprisingly, we all felt full after savoring these little servings. Maybe that's what fine dining is about...you're supposed to eat slowly and savor it, so even though the servings are (always) small, you feel quite full afterwards.
We couldn't get enough of the amazing fish fillets, so Mom and I took some more to share...=)
And then we got desserts! Cream puffs and bread pudding...yummy! The top layer of the bread pudding was quite crisp and crunchy, giving way to the softer layers underneath (which also had some banana inside). Topped with some of the sauce, it's sweet heaven! The cream puffs were great too, but the pastry was a little too hard for me. Still, great desserts!
Then, it was mystery time...=) I won't go into details with the story of the mystery coz it was very long, but there were two murders committed by one (or more) of the casts. The actors act out a few scenes, and the guests (divided into one team per table) were given clues in the form of small notes. There were A LOT of notes! LOL! Anyways, from all the (many and complicated) notes, we had to try and come up with a theory on how the murders were committed, who did it and why. It's quite a long game, but interesting indeed!
My only quip with it was the acting. Now, I'm no actor myself and I admire those who are brave enough to stand in front of a crowd / camera to act, but I feel like the scenes were a bit over-acted. It feels a little fake, especially when the actors try to put on some 'accents' to try and potray the characters, which is a bit no no for me. =\ If done properly, a good accent is great, but it's clear that the accents were put on, so...meh. I think if the cast were given local names and scenes were closer to home, it would be more believable. But still, the concept of the game was cool though, and I had a great time deciphering the clues. =)
My team managed to guess (partially) the culprits behind the murders at the end...YAYY! We got little souvenirs for our efforts...and at the end, all the table centerpiece flower pots were given out to all the guests as part of the event organizers' bid to go green! All in all, it was an enjoyable time...=)
Okay, okay Mom...you're boring people already! That's it from us now...stay tuned for the next post which includes a video, treats, and silliness! *wink*
xoxo,
Scottie
